Hip Pain

Referred pain- Many patients often think that there problem must lie under the area of their pain. This is not always the case, especially when it comes to hip pain since many back problems can give a pain referral first to the buttock area and then the hip before going down the leg either in the front or side or the back of the leg. Groin strain again can refer pain to the hip area.

Chiropractors will determine the cause of the referral pain and then treat the area with various Chiropractic techniques.

Bursitis – This is irritation and therefore inflammation of the sac covering the bony surface of the side of the hip.

This is often the case when a patient informs the Chiropractor that they cannot lay on their side for any length of time or they cannot sleep on their sides. This is because the bursa which is already swollen would be compressed and friction would be caused between it and the bony hip, creating more inflammation, resulting in more pain.

In some cases of advanced bursitis, other treatments such as cortisone injections may be of use as well.

Wear and tear – This joint along with the knee, and the spine (especially in the lower back); is the most common joint in which wear and tear occurs. This is due to all the mentioned joints are weight bearing joints and they carry our own body weight around.

Here Chiropractic care can help with the pain from wear and tear along with some advice on rehabilitation exercises and mobility can be a great combination to reduce the progression of the wear and tear that is already present. In some cases, where necessary, the use of Foot Orthotics (arch supports) can be of great help as well.
